DIY Cigarette Ashtray Making With Empty Cigarette Boxes

DIY Cigarette Ashtray:

The cigarette boxes are designed so attractively that sometimes the smokers do not think of throwing them away. If you have ever come across a smoker, you might have seen a number of empty cigarette boxes lying in a corner of his room or a drawer. There are a number of crafts which can be made from empty cigarette boxes. One of them is a cigarette ashtray. It's a great idea to make a DIY ashtray out of empty flip top cigarette boxes. You can design it in any shape like a square, rectangle, triangle, hexagon or a circle. We are going to discuss here the circular shape as it's the most complex one. 

Materials required:

·         A piece of cardboard

·         Strong adhesive glue

·         Cutter

·         Compass

·         Scale

·         Aluminum foil paper

·         Empty cigarette boxes

·         Pencil

Step 1: Make the Base

The first step of the process is to make the base of the ashtray. For this purpose, you required a piece of cardboard. Draw a circle on it using a compass. You can take it 6-inches or smaller or larger than it as you require. Now take a cutter and cut the circle carefully as shown in the picture.

Step 2: Cut and Stick the Heads of Cigarette Pack

You need empty flip top cigarette boxes. Cut their heads and start sticking them together with glue as shown in the picture. The thing to remember is that you need to fix the heads in the circular form to make a curve. Stick them densely. You can also take the help of the base you cut to make them fix in a circular shape.

Step 3: Stick the Heads’ Circle with the Base

Next step is to stick the heads' circle with the base you made previously. Use a strong adhesive and put some weight to stick them firmly. If you want to increase the height and capacity of the ashtray, you may add another heads circle on it.

Step 4: Prepare the Aluminum Foil Paper

Now you need an aluminum foil paper because it will protect the cardboard base and the head circle to catch the cigarette fire. According to the diameter of the heads circle, put a circle on the aluminum sheet. It is approximately 5 inch in this case. Then cut the aluminum paper in 5x5 inches square shaped as you have to paste them to the walls of the circular head. Just take care of one thing, the dimensions of aluminum squares and circle should be according to the size of the base and heads you have made.

Step 5: Paste Aluminum Foil Paper to the Circle

Paste the aluminum circle in the inner part of the base. Once it gets fixed, paste glue at the walls of a circular head. Now stick 5x5 inches square pieces. You may also use some old newspaper to apply pressure so that the glue is applied firmly to the inner side. Leave it to dry for some time.

 Step 6: Cover the Outer Part of the Head

Once the cigarette ashtray gets dry from the inside, cover the outer part of the head circle from outside. You can use any kind of paper to wrap it, but the aluminum foil is the most recommended one, as it makes your ashtray secure and does not catch fire. You may cover it half of the height or as you want. This is to add more grace to it. Your DIY cigarette ashtray from empty cigarette boxes is ready to use.
